2010 Triple D Winter Race Date Set
The 2010 Triple D Winter Race (bike or Ski or Run) date has been officially set for Saturday, January 9th, 2010! Nearly all festivities will remain the same this year... so feel free to check out all the prior year’s photos and information using the links to the right of the page.
There will be no ultra distance Ski or Run but we will utilize the extended out and back that we did last year, so that the Ski & Foot race will have a full marathon option.
New this year will be a 2010 commemorative calendar for all participants (biking in the winter all year long!!! Now what could be better than that???)
Also set to kick off this weekend is the award winning Dubuque Ice Fest (how appropriate): http://www.mississippirivermuseum.com

Lance: Leave Florida and Get up here...You belong in Duluth, MN where you would be appreciated...
Looking forward to seeing you. I would be great to see you at the Heck of the North...we can team up to defeat the EVIL PRAMANN...
Hugs,
Charlie
Lance - Thanks for hosting this wintery race again. Unless injury holds me back I'm ready to try my hand at the run again. Hopefully it will not be as cold as the first year.
Have you considered adding an optional loop at the end to up the mileage to 26.2? Once you get to Durango continue on the trail towards DBQ for 1.6 miles and than double-back. You might he able to pull in a larger running crowd by calling the running aspect Iowa's first marathon of the year.
Thanks
Craig Schutte
We added that last year so that both the skiers and runners had an option for a full marathon. I think we had one runner and one skier who did the 50K total.
Is there a sign up somewhere? Would like to do the bike.

Registration will open next month once we get all the arrangements made with land owners, hotels, sponsers and such.
Lance
This is for snow bikes only, right? Guess I'll have to do the run option...
Deb
Deb, no, any bike will work... some better than others. If the trail conditions are hard enough even a CX bike would work. Last year the ideal bike would have been one you could easily carry (lol). A mountain bike with the widest tires you have is the preferred method of travel. Check out the pictures from the prior years, it will give you an idea of the bikes used.
Running and skiing is always a good choose for DDD.
Hey Lance, the e-mail you sent out listed the bike route length at 65 miles. Is it the same as last year? I thought it was 54 miles. Not that it matters much, since I'm still doing it. Mainly curious.

Michael,
I just plotted the entire course (standard route - same as the first year but ends in Durango). The official mileage is only 54 miles! That doesn't too bad, why the he## have there been only 4 who finished (and they did the longer 65 mile route). I’ll post the GOOGLE Earth KMZ files in a couple days so that all can view the route (with alternates which will be used at my discretion based on the bridge replacement schedule and weather conditions).
Pre race postings have been pretty sparse lately esp with event a bit less than 6 weeks away. Still on yes?
Hey Lance,
I love the idea of a winter marathon in Iowa. How do I register?
Registration will be open tomorrow... I’ll be posting information on the required data then.
Thanks, Lance
So do we get a shirt or medal or anything or just the poster...I know it's a lame question...but I gotta love a shirt or sweatshirt to brag up my accomplishment.
and BTW...I am looking forward to this, I hope it's cold and snowY!!
Angela, Yes, everyone gets a really nice medal (snow flake with your type of event in the middle). Category winners get trophies, and everyone gets to participate in a lottery for prizes...
Cool, thanx Lance....I am also wondering about the marathon option....Not tooo interested in 50K option (just did that at tuscobia) but would be able to chalk this up as a full marathon....how does that work????
Sending my registration out today...Also I think Tim R. was letting you know I was coming...what do I need to do about a room there???
Oh and btw....saw you did the Tuscobia 75...kudos dude.....I think Im going to try it next year.
Angela,
Important Dates & Times
1. Hotel Reservations under our Group rate at the Grand River Center in Dubuque are due by December 22nd. Please reference “Triple D Winter Race” when making reservations. If you want to share a room let me know and I’ll get you hooked up with other racers. http://www.grandharborresort.com/index.cfm
2. Registration Data (see below) and check to me no later than Jan 4th
3. Race Day Check in / Race Packet pickup at 8-9 am on Jan 9th
Hey again Lance...
Yeah I saw that..but it is after Dec 22nd....If you could hook me up with some other racers to share a room with that would be great...Do you think it will be a problem???
They are still taking room reservations... but if you want to share i'll get you hooked up. The longer run/ski extenstion is an extra 2 miles out and back, gets you a full marathon and almost a 50 k.
Cool Lance...thanx for helping me out....definetely interested in full marathon option..maybe even 50k....if I can decide later....
Okay yeah, me again....I been looking for a map of these trails/trail...where can I find something like that....you know of the course....
There's a nice map link at the Iowa Bicycle Coalition site:

Is there race day registration for the run? Thank you!
-Josh
No, you'll need to get the registration in the mail ASAP, and send me an email that you have mailed it. We are providing transportation for all the runners and skiers and I need a good head count
