Snow is in the forecast so timing on this email is perfect! The famous Triple D Winter Race is in its third year, and I’m sure this year will be the year when everyone finishes (sarcasm).

What's the cut off for registration? Any race morning registering?

After last year, I'd really like to know what the weather is doing before actually attempting the race again.

Cut off for registration is Jan 4th.
Nope, just too many commitments that we have to make (transportation, hotel, sag, awards, etc.).
I agree the weather was S#!t last year... but that's what we have to suffer through. If it makes you feel any better “Misery Loves Company). The way things are going this year, it may be a dirt race…

The snow is just beginning, tonights forecast.
A POWERFUL WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT THE REGION TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. THIS SYSTEM WILL PRODUCE 6 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THUNDER-SNOW MAY OCCUR TUESDAY NIGHT ALONG WITH VERY HEAVY SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES AN HOUR.

AS THE SYSTEM MOVES OFF TO THE EAST LATE TUESDAY NIGHT... NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 25 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 50 MPH. THIS WILL CREATE WIDESPREAD BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES. WHITEOUT CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED AT TIMES

Lance,

Is the meeting place the morning of the race at the grand river center? Also if I'm running it can I park a car in Graf with aid in it or do I need to have it all on me? I'm new this year and plan to run it. Thanks for the help and the great event.

Yes, the prerace meeting is at the Grand River Center. There will be a bus that will take you to Dyersville, and a shuttle that will bring you back from the Bar at Durango.

All gear must be carried with you. No drop bags or outside support.

Sorry, us North Carolinians are good at spelling states that have a lot more than 4 letters but otherwise kinda dense. I know I would learn this at the pre-race briefing, but that might be a bit late to change preparations and material. My main confusion points are:
1. Where should I park my car?
2. From the location of the pre-race meeting, am I safe to assume there is transportation to the start and also back from the finish, assuming that neither of those is near the briefing?
3. "no outside support" in the last reply was a reference to everything (no aid stations, no first aid, no nothing) or was only about leaving gear at the start or finish in a drop bag? That is, should I wear a back pack with everything I need to survive?
4. "Simultaneous starts at Dyersville and Dubuque at 10 AM" infers that perhaps some categories (bikers?) start at one place and others (skiers, runners?) at the other place, but if that's so, who starts where?
5. If a "significant other" came along to see the beauty of Iowa in the dead of winter, are there any locations along the route that one could watch the masochists go by (assuming it is not snowing too hard to see)?

This should indeed be fun -- for those of us with the twisted minds to enjoy it!

[This may be a duplicate of the previous comment -- I could not tell from the blog site whether it was submitted.]

The page above may add some light to how its ran.

1. You can park your car at the Grand River Center.

2. Yes, we will handle all the transportation, the first year the runners had a limo.

3. Yes you will need to carry everything that you will need to complete th3 23 or 26 miles. There will be lots of support people on the trail, but they are their only for emergencies and to track everyone’s progress.

4. Runners start in Dyersville, bikers in Dubuque. The Skiers will start at Dyersville unless their isn’t enough snow (the stretch of trail from Dyersville to Farley is notorious for poor snow conditions) if this is the case (as it was the first year) they will ski an out and back starting at the Dubuque Trail head.

5. Yes, there are a couple of places where spectators could watch the race (I’d only recommend the start as it’s a long cold wait out there). There's the water park for the kids, and the Ice Festival is going on for the adults. Also, the finish line is always fun as it’s a bar and the race head quarters.
